Meet The Owners:
Jules and Marc bring a bold flair to everything they do—much like the perfect burger. These two local legends have been shaking up the food scene in Wanaka since 2014, when they started Burrito Craft which quickly turned into a Wanaka institution. Not ones to stay in their comfort zone, they snatched up the iconic Red Star Burgers in June 2024, ready for a tasty new challenge. Marc’s got a rep for crafting the perfect burger patty—juicy, charred just right. And Jules well shes the condiment Queen, making everything from scratch so you can be sure no sauce is ever bland or worse yet, forgettable. When they’re not serving up burgers and burritos, they’re chasing their boys Nico and Finn around, staying active or throwing dinner parties for family and friends. Because even on a day off, food is still the main event in their world.
History:
Red Star was the dream of three local mates with a taste for hearty, honest, wholesome food. They ran the joint for a solid decade, building a cult following of loyal locals who still pop by today.
Then in 2015, Scotty and Ash Bickley jumped in and kept the Red Star vibe alive—same epic menu, same no-fuss approach. Just good, honest burgers made from fresh, local goodness.
Fast forward to June 2024, and enter Jules and Marc Magee, the new faces behind the grill. This dynamic duo is here to write the next chapter of Red Star history. Expect more of what you love, with a focus on jam packed, flavour filled saucy burgers and a brand new menu. With over 20 epic burgers to choose from and some of Wanaka's finest brews on tap, we’ve got your cravings covered. And yeah, word on the street (and we agree) is our fries are the best in town. Our burgers? Fresh as hell, made daily from the finest seasonal, local ingredients. We don’t half-a** it either—handmade patties, free-range chook, happy eggs from our mates down the road, wild game, and our legendary homemade sauces that’ll slap you in the taste buds. Pair that craft burger with a local craft beer, and you’ve got yourself a damn good time. Oh, and for the gluten-free and plant-based crew? We got you covered, too.

We’re passionate about our little burger biz and this epic environment we get to live and work in, so we’re always down for ways to help protect it. From encouraging people to dine-in, to using biodegradable, compostable or recyclable packaging, restricting single-use plastics or plastic bottles, and sending our food scraps to our local farmers, we’re onto it.
